developer-tools // Protocols
Charge for any HTTP API with Lightning: the L402 protocol and Aperture, Lightning Labs' reverse proxy that enforces it.
Build: Paid APIs
overview
L402 revives HTTP 402 Payment Required. A client calls your API, receives a Lightning invoice plus a macaroon, pays, and retries with proof of payment — no accounts or API keys. Aperture sits in front of your existing service and handles the invoices, macaroons, and pricing, which makes it a natural fit for pay-per-call APIs and AI agents that pay for data.
